Alex becomes Flintshire's Wheeled Sports Development Officer
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself, and my new role in the development of 'wheeled sports' in Flintshire.
As the increase in popularity and demand for wheeled sports in Flintshire grows, and in line with the Flintshire 'Single Children's and Young Peoples Plan' a new Wheeled Sports Development Officer post has been created in partnership with Flintshire County Council Play Unit; Welsh Assembly Government; Flintshire Cymorth Management Board; Ground Works Wrexham and Flintshire; Barclay's Spaces for Sports and Sport Flintshire (LAPA- Local Authority Partnership Agreement).
I have been a life-long enthusiast for all wheeled sports and have worked as a 'Wheeled Sports Officer' at Camp America for 2 Seasons and also spent 12 months working with the Flintshire YOT Team, working with young people to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme.
Initially I aim to be involved with:-
*The increase and further development of opportunities for wheeled sports across Flintshire county for children and young people.
*Focusing on trying to remove any 'barriers' that prevent children and Young People participating in wheeled sports.
* Working closely with children, young people and local communities
* Development of proper communication channels eg FCC website
* Providing workshops and events - eg Flint Freewheelin' 2009
* Enhancing existing and developing new & appropriate partnerships for wheeled sports
They include such disciplines such as BMX, mountain-biking, skate-boarding, in-line skate and cycling and all issues around these disciplines.
Any questions, queries, guidance or advice on any wheeled sports within Flintshire please do not hesitate to contact me.
